Would you pay $71,185 for a 2018 Ford F-150?

A century ago Ford introduced their very first pickup truck. That truck found its basis in Model T hence they named it ‘Model TT.’ Basically it was a reworked and buffed truck with a strong frame that could support one ton of cargo. Just like its predecessor, the Model TT was designed for working class folks, and its price was $600. Don’t think for a moment that back then $600 were worth as much as they are today, nowadays if we were to ‘convert’ those 600 bucks it would amount to approximately $12,500.

If we are to trust Ford’s online configurator nowadays, the 2018 Ford F-150 costs almost six times more than the Model TT. To be precise, $71,185. It does sound like a humongous amount of money, and we won’t argue that, but for all that cash you’ll get a fully loaded 2018 Ford F-150 Raptor. However, Ford F-150 Raptor is a specialty truck, so we decided to look at its runner up instead. The vehicle at hand is a $70,890 F-150 Limited SuperCrew. It features a 5-1/2-foot bed, four-wheel drive, and the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Remember how we said that the Model TT and its older brother were designed for working class people? Well, this one sure isn’t, and it’s seriously close to a new BMW 7 Series. Therefore we really can’t imagine many working class heroes driving this monster.

On the other hand, though working class folks need not worry! The F-150 also comes in working-class variation! A base model F-150 XL in single-cab two-wheel drive configuration sells for $28,675. The price sounds awesome, but we have to denote that it is, however, a work truck with vinyl floors, an AM/FM sound system and that’s about it. If you want to kick it up a notch you should go for the XLT which is a bit more expensive, it goes for $34,265. For that amount of money, you’ll also get a little more ‘prestige’ of a vehicle with basic power features.

If you come from the ‘upper class’ and want a luxury pickup, we have a perfect solution. We succeeded in reaching the $70,000-plus Limited price range by throwing in $5,650 worth of options to the basic price ($63,945). For that hefty amount, you’ll get features such as leather everything, gadgets that could get you to Mars and cameras that cover both interior and exterior of the truck. We would also like to mention a hard tonneau bed cover ($995), a trailer tow package ($995), White Platinum paint ($595), a spray-in bedliner ($495), a 36-gallon fuel tank ($445) and a 3.55 axle ratio ($470). That is not all as we get bed divider, tailgate step, floor mats, bed extender and a few other accessories that are each worth around $200 besides the aforementioned features. People who are able to spend $70,000 on a truck surely don’t care about spending another hundred or two on it while they’re at it.

Incredibly luxurious machine packed with technology is what you’ll get out of a fully loaded Ford F-150 Limited while the Raptor is just an off-road sports car. But do you really think that both of them are worth $70,000 with all those optional perks? Feel free to leave a comment below!
