Dwayne Johnson’s infatuation with Black Adam is a well-known fact in Hollywood and among his fans. The famous actor was set to make the debut in his new role in Suicide Squad 2, but things seem to have gone awry in the last few weeks.

At first, Black Adam was to appear in new Shazam movie. After all, he is Shazam’s archenemy. The project is already filming and is set to be released in April 2019. However, given The Rock’s enormous popularity, Warner Bros. and DC decided that it is better to create a solo Black Adam movie, which could start production in 2019. The script they obtained seems to be ticking all the boxes and Johnson is especially happy with it.

“The script came in, it’s great, we’re working on it. If things come together in the way we anticipate them coming together, that feels like a 2019 movie in production… Black Adam, It’s this phenomenal opportunity for us to nail the tone and make sure he’s badass. Also, we have intrinsic DNA tied to a lot of other properties in DC. It’s not an easy thing to do, but I think we’re gonna nail it. Fingers crossed. Tell all of the Black Adam fans out there that it’s looking like 2019,” said the actor.

Apart from that, it was already decided that Dwayne should make an appearance in Suicide Squad 2 as a sort of a teaser for the audience. The sequel to the popular 2016 hit was set to start filming this year, but delays occur, and it was pushed to 2019. This may have caused a scheduling conflict with Johnson’s other project and may be the reason why he won’t appear in the movie, according to the latest rumors. In fact, some insiders say that even Black Adam may be in question if Warner Bros continue to lollygag around it.

The future of DC live action movies is uncertain after the Justice League disaster, and currently, there are only two guaranteed projects after Shazam, Wonder Woman 2 and Suicide Squad 2. If Shazam tanks at the box offices, it would be hard to imagine that line up would be expanded any further, with or without Dwayne Johnson. As ever, he has been quite diplomatic about it: “It’s a challenging thing because when Marvel is doing such an incredible job of universe building out, and DC is doing a great job finding the footing and tone of their movies. Certainly with like, Wonder Woman for example. I look forward to James Wan’s movie that’s coming out with Aquaman.”
