Will 2019 Toyota Corolla Sport BMW Engines?

Rumor has it that the 2019 Toyota Corolla might use some of the engines from the BMW. A vehicle produced in Japan that is powered by German engines sounds too good to be true, or is this a bad idea? The new Supra will be equipped with a powerplant from the German carmaker, but there is a difference between Supra and Corolla.

Toyota Corolla differs from one continent to another. In Japan, it is a slightly smaller vehicle, whereas the design is different in Europe and the US. Moreover, the Auris is the name that is used for Corolla lineup in some countries.

According to previous reports, several engines will be offered for the new Corolla. One of those is a 1.5-liter I4 petrol unit, but there are also the 8NR-FTS 1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline and 1.8-liter VVT-I petrol engine. This is not all as we could hear that Toyota will also use a hybrid combination with the 1.5-liter unit that will be helped by an electric motor.

Let’s presume that a 2.0-liter turbo powerplant from the MINI JCW will not be used for the new Corolla. Instead, we might see the 2.0-liter diesel variant, which would be perfect, considering that buyers of Corolla in Europe are primarily looking for reliability. As Toyota believes, using just hybrids is fine, but that may negatively reflect the sales. Verso and Avensis already got their 2.0-liter diesel from BMW.
