Heat resistant materials are pretty self-explanatory, they are used to protect various elements from heat sources and high temperature. They are widely used in the industry nowadays when operations that include high amounts of heat are performed. They both enhance safety in some cases and make things easier to work. Heat resistant materials definitely made a big change in the industry and they started seeing use in home operations as well.

So, in this article, we’re going to talk about them, where you can find them and what is their most common use. Without further ado, let’s begin.

What exactly are heat resistant materials?

So, heat resistant materials are basically products that can both protect people and certain equipment or instruments from being permanently damaged by high temperatures and heat. They are actually pretty common and you can find them in your home as well. Some examples would be the inside of the stoves and ovens, car parts and many other common places as well.

The pretty interesting thing about heat resistant materials is that they protect from more than just heat and high temperatures. They reduce the hazard of off-gassing in situations when cables, for example, get overheated.

What kinds of heat resistant materials are there?

We’re going to mention the four most common heat resistant materials. Starting off with the tapes. Heat resistant tapes are pretty common, can be bought in almost any local hardware store, and they see a lot of daily use both in the industry and in-home repairing situations. They come in different shapes and sizes, widths and lengths. Also, their thickness can vary as well. These tapes might seem very ordinary but they can protect you from very high temperatures, up to a stunning number of 1700 Celsius. They are not very expensive to buy, pretty easy to use and extremely helpful.

The heat resistant sealants

They are used to close gaps wherever you need them, usually between two solid sections of a machine that is involved in high-temperature operations. Sealants usually come in the form of liquid and they’re put in a tube with a frame of a handgun and you simply aim at the hole from close range and squeeze the “trigger”. Then the liquid comes out and fills the gap. After an hour or two, it will be rock solid and the gap will no longer exist. They protect from temperatures that range up to 800 Celsius.

The heat resistant fire sleeves

This type of heat resistant materials is also extremely popular in industrial use. This is because they offer resistance to high temperatures and water, oil and adhesives as well. They are basically like a silicon coated fiberglass sleeve and have the ability to resist temperatures up to 560 Celsius

Heat resistant fire blankets

Right after the fire-resistant tapes, these are probably the second most commonly used heat resistant materials. They just serve in so many situations. Some people have them in their home, and all industries have large supplies of them as well. They are extremely popular for a reason, and that is because of their simplicity. They are just blankets that are fire resistant and you can throw them on top of a fire to stop it.
