Westworld is a western/sci/-fi series that has won the hearts of millions across the world, and we can safely place it next to Stranger Things and even Game of Thrones. When season one ended, it left many fans perplexed, but that was just the beginning, and HBO is working on the sequel.

Westworld Season 2 Release Date

Westworld Season 2 should be aired in 2018. When the first season ended, HBO immediately announced that the show is going to continue for ten more episodes. The HBO programming president Casey Bloys said: “My suspicion is sometime in 2018 because of how big the world is and what goes into shooting it. So I don’t have a date exactly — they’re going to have to map it out and write the scripts — but my guess is sometime in ’18.”

What is going on at the moment?

The filming of Westworld Season 2 is scheduled for October this year, and it will take place in Utah. It is the same location where the first season was filmed, and we expect to see the cast and crew working until April 2018. Evan Rachel Wood posted a photo on Instagram where we can see her excitement for and devotion to the series. The trailer hasn’t been revealed yet, and we are patiently waiting to see one.

Cast and Crew, Old and New

Producers said nothing about the cast, but several actors hinted at their comeback. Ed Harris is one of them. He played the older version of The Man in Black in the first season, and he told BBC Radio 4: “I was just talking to Jonah Nolan last night, who’s a creator of this thing [Westworld] with his wife Lisa Joy, and yeah, they’re doing another season. They’re going to do 10 more episodes, and I will be involved.”

His younger iteration was kept in the dark in the first season, but the actor who played the role is named Jimmi Simpson, and he is unlikely to return. He told Cinema Blend that his involvement in the new season is “unclear.” He stated: If they have more for William, I would assume it would be a whole new kind of story. Because I feel like this story, the love affair, we know everything, we know what happens, we don’t have to labor that point. But if they have a reason–I mean, it was the greatest set I’ve ever worked on.”

“But we’re all speculating what Season 2 will be, and I think it’ll be something that will blow our minds, to the degree that Season 1 did” he continued. “But I wouldn’t be surprised if William showed up Season 3 or something.”

Rachel Evan Woods who plays Dolores and Thandie Newton are likely to return, whereas Anthony Hopkins who portrayed Robert Ford is not going to appear in the new season since his character was shot in Season 1 finale. However, producer Jonathan Nolan didn’t rule out Hopkins’ return, and he declared: “I think with this show, you want to assume nothing” In the meantime, Hopkins said: “Nobody knows anything. I don’t know anything. I cannot give any answers as I don’t know.”

On the other hand, Louis Herthum who plays Dolores’ father Peter Abernathy is going to make a comeback, and he will be a main cast member in the new season. Angela’s actress Talulah Riley will also get more screen time.

As for the new characters, we expect to see Katja Herbers from The Leftovers whom Deadline described as “a seasoned guest in Westworld whose latest visit comes at the park’s darkest hour.”

Season 2 Plot

It is probably too early to discuss the plot of the Westworld Season 2, plus Nolan and co-producer Lisa Joy have been quiet about it. However, Nolan stated: “We are definitely not picking up right where we left off.”

The fans cannot wait to see the new worlds which will be introduced at some point in the series. In the 1973 film and the original book, there are three parks – Western World, Roman World and Medieval World, but Nolan declared that they don’t plan to introduce Roman and Medieval Worlds into the series. Be that as it may, it appears that the Samurai World will be shown eventually.

Nolan said: “We will ultimately encounter other worlds. Just when and where remains to be seen.” Joy confirmed that the Samurai World would be featured by stating, “it’s wonderful to work with actors we haven’t worked with before. This allows us a lot of access to Asian actors and the Asian community.”

Plot information is thin, but the chaos alluded to by Ford is going to be one of the central themes of the new season. Also, in the season 1 finale, we found out that Dolores is actually Wyatt. Nolan also said that “ruthlessness seen will carry over into the new episodes. The question will be when the dust settles, and the pendulum stops swinging, who will Dolores be?”

According to Nolan, Reddit had correctly guessed one of the twists in the third episode of the season 2. “Reddit has already figured out the third episode twist,” Nolan said. “So, we’re changing that right now” he revealed. “It’s annoying sometimes when people guess the twists and then blog about it, but the engagement is gratifying, on one level, because if someone guesses your twist, it means you’ve done an adequate job [of structuring the series].”
