The new Toyota Supra will be introduced in October this year at Tokyo Motor Show, and the new Concept will present the new-age of this famous Japanese car.

Japanese publication Best Car told Car and Driver that the new model will have the similar design as the FT-1 Concept which was displayed in 2014. This means that the new vehicle will bring sharp lines and a two-door design and that it is going to be less conservative than the GT86.

Toyota is developing the new Supra with BMW, and they decided not to share powertrain details with the public. Rumor has it that Toyota will offer three engine options for the new Supra. The first unit is the turbocharged 2.0-liter I4 good for 255 horses, and it is followed by a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that is more powerful and produces 340 hp. The last unit Toyota plans to offer is a hybrid that will combine 2.5-liter petrol unit and at least one electric motor. The last setup that we mentioned here clearly represents the way for this car maker to follow the trend of sporty vehicles with hybrid powertrains that are more often seen in the last few years.

The Supra’s twin from Germany, BMW Z5 will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September 2017, and this one will sport the already existing turbo I4 engine together with straight-six powerplants. We expect to see a lot of i3 and i8’s carbon fiber elements on the new Z5.

Toyota will dominate the Tokyo Motor Show because they also plan to present the S-FR II concept as well as the GTI-branded version of the Corolla. The former will evolve from the 2015 concept, and it should act as a mini version of the GT86 whereas the latter will come with a 2.0-liter turbocharged unit with the output of 250 hp.

Stay tuned for more details.
