Top Gun was one of the biggest box office movies in the 1980s, and it left a big mark on the generations who watched it at the time. The role of Maverick, a Naval fighter pilot who doesn’t abide by the rules, launched Tom Cruise into the stars. When he wasn’t up in the air, Maverick was romancing with Kelly McGillis’ Charlie in the evenings or playing volleyball against Val Kilmer’s Iceman.
Now, Paramount is working on Top Gun: Maverick that will be directed by Joseph Kosinski, who collaborated with Cruise on Oblivion, a sci-fi movie where Cruise is hired on a seemingly abandoned Earth. Tom Cruise personally was the one who coolly confirmed Top Gun 2 when he was hosted on Australia’s Sunrise morning show, and this doesn’t happen that often.
And in the video in which Cruise talks about next month’s The Mummy, he reveals that the Top Gun sequel is coming. He also said that that the crew is supposed to start shooting the movie within the next 12 months.
“It’s true, yes,” smiled the famous actor. He continued: “You know what, I’m going to start filming it probably in the next year. I know, I know, it’s happening. It’s definitely happening.”
Top Gun might not have been the best movie that has ever been filmed, but it definitely marked the generations and that era. Tony Scott’s film will be remembered and watched by future generations as well. The first movie really set the bar high, but we have high hopes about Top Gun 2.
Do you think that Top Gun 2 can beat the original movie and be even better? What will the story be about? Is it going to be as exciting as the first film? It is still too early to talk about it, but follow us for more details.
