Tony Romo Is Not Coming Back

Tim Cowlishaw, who is a sports columnist for SportsDayDFW.com and The Dallas Morning News talked about Tony Romo’s career. According to some fans, Tony Romo might make a comeback and play for the Dallas Cowboys once more, only if Dak Prescott were to get injured before or early in the season. Is that possible? Tim Cowlishaw says no.

He declared: “Not at all. Ridiculous. Listen to what he said two weeks ago. And I’ll use quotes but paraphrase — “I know how hard I have to work to get ready, and if I were going to play I would already be doing that work. And I’m not making the decision to do that.” You don’t just walk out of a presumably $3-4 million top job at CBS to go play football for a few weeks on a whim.”

Cowlishaw continued: “The other thing people have to consider is the risk CBS is taking and the responsibility he now has. If he were to walk away, what would be his broadcasting future? Is CBS going to hire him right back? Some other network going to shower money on him after he walked out? Don’t think so.”

He was also asked about Robert Blanton who has just signed with the Cowboys, and he replied: “I know next to nothing about Blanton other than he got some playing time in Buffalo. But to your question, yes, and that’s mostly right no matter what happens in the draft.”

He also added: “At 28, they aren’t signing a guy who’s going to have 12 sacks or six interceptions this year in all likelihood. They’re hoping to get a guy who helps them a little, presumably on defense but not necessarily. Dak, Zeke, Dez will determine where this team goes in 2017. Offensive line too, obviously.”

About his expectations for Jaylon Smith, Cowlishaw said: “Very few. No idea if he can really play. I guess we know he can run straight ahead but not much beyond that. I assume in minicamps people will get a better feel for whether or not he is back.”
