The new Google hardware event was about one thing: Synergy

Google had its annual biggest hardware event on October 4th, and there was so much to write about. There were so many new devices including the Google smartphones, the Google Home smart speakers, some new wireless routers and the 4K Chromecast. All this and Google is trying to show us something that it desires to be just like Apple in a way.

Google has always had competition with Apple, and the relationship has always been asymmetric because Apple has always had a hand on their hardware and operating system, giving them a chance to fine-tune the two as they please. The Android alternative is not as polished, coherent, and refined no matter how much Google will try to sell it. This is because Google does not own the devices which are running the system. Therefore Google has decided to address the issue by becoming a business which would fully invest into smartphone making.

Google plans to release some phones which will be branded with signs saying made by Google or phone by Google. This probably means the end of the Nexus, one program which was seen as a hobby in the main Google HQ. The company seems to be taking a long-term mobile strategy to the problem at hand. During the hardware event, Google was expected to release the Daydream virtual reality platform and it is going to be best felt on the Google Pixel and the Pixel XL phones.

With this approach Google is probably aiming to become the second Apple. If they can control the hardware on which their own operating system runs, they can easily emulate the example which has been given by Apple which seems to work very well of late. They can now build the software and hardware components so that they can nicely complement each other for maximum output.

And through the introduction of the Google Daydream platform, means that Android VR developers also get a reassurance and a risk mitigation for their work. The anti-fragmentation concern is clearly seen in the choice of the closely matched and almost identical spaces which are between the two new Google phones. Pixel is 5 inches long, and the Pixel XL is 5.5 inches.

Competing in the smartphone market with software that is not run on your devices is like playing the lottery. Because of the leading hardware suppliers at the moment, for example, Samsung has had some trouble of late with its exploding phones so it’s going to hit the software maker as well. Google has tried with the Android software and its history up to this point has been that of a beneficial hardware and software development between the Google and Android partners. Interests between the two might happen just as recently seen with Google’s spat with Samsung over Samsung’s over customization of the Android software on their phones.

Google clears to be going back to the adage, if you want something done, then do it yourself.
