The newly launched battery by Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) made it to all the leading dailies as soon as it was launched a few days back. Reports claim that the newly launched battery is far from usable on a daily basis. Elon Musk led Tesla’s newest offering was expected to take solar power revolution to the next level.

The Problem

Even though it seems to be the perfect solution for the problem related to electricity that the entire world is facing now, but experts don’t consider it as good as it was promoted initially. The primary issue with this battery is that it doesn’t work effectively with the roof-top solar equipment. Solar City, which is led by Elon Musk, has played an important part in its development. The solar leader is not yet ready to make available this new battery for daily usage.

These Powerwall home batteries are available in two different sizes- 7kWh and 10kWh. The difference between these two batteries is far from just size. As per the reports, the 7kWh batteries are designed for the daily use while the 10kWh batteries are designed to be occasionally used when the electricity goes out.

Apart from this, the bigger battery isn’t capable of going through more than 50 charging cycles per year. The information was shared by Jonathan Bass, Spokesperson, SolarCity.

There is a lot more confusion than what it seems in the first place. The company doesn’t look forward to installing the 7kWh battery that is optimal for the daily usage. According to Bass, this model doesn’t make any sense in terms of finances. The U.S. regulations allow users to sell extra electricity units back to the grid, which makes this battery inefficient.

Tesla is making a very limited profit as of now; hence, it doesn’t want to make things more complicated. It looks forward to making suitable changes in the near future to make these batteries efficient for daily usage.
