Sony Corporation (SNE) sold more than 1 million PS4 game consoles in its first 24 hours of launch in North America on Friday. Pre-order numbers were not revealed during the announcement.

Good response from users

“Sales remain very strong in North America, and we expect continued enthusiasm as we launch the PlayStation 4 in Europe and Latin America on November 29,” Andrew House, the CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, said in a statement.

There were long queues of Play station fans waiting to get their own PS4s. One of the buyers told CNET that he stood in line for more than 20 hours, in the cold weather, to get PS4 during a midnight launch event held at New York’s Standard High Line hotel.

Reviewers at CNET gave good feedback on the new console for its simplified and logical interface, graphics and its DualShock 4 controller. Sony has not made PS3 games compatible with PS4.

Early Hiccups in the console

The sales numbers have been impressive for Sony, but Play Station 4, which was hailed with vigor, did not escape from its own set of issues like customers complaining about malfunctioning including flashing of a blue light instead of video, crash repeatedly, or did not boot at all.

Sony Corporation accepted that some users reported the issues, but it was within the company’s expectation of the new product launch.

The company said in a statement to IGN, “The number of affected systems represents less than .4% of shipped units to date, which is within our expectations for a new product introduction.”

Troubleshoot suggestions

The Japanese firm has come up with a troubleshoot guide for PlayStation 4 users who experienced the blue light problem.  Sony noted that those users facing the issue are advised to turn off their Console completely, and hold down the power button for at least seven seconds. While holding the button they should wait for the system beep twice. Another remedy could be taking out PS4 AC power cord from the electrical outlet and locating damaged parts like the system’s HDMI port, which was the issue in some of the previous consoles. The last and basic thing would be to check all the cables and settings.

Sony has suggested the customers to contact the customer support if the problem persists as the company is in the process of detecting and rectifying the problem.
