Sony Corp (ADR)(NYSE:SNE) is reportedly joining the league of technology companies like Samsung and Apple in the manufacturing of tablets with large screens. The company is rumored to soon come with an Android tablet with a 13-inch display. Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (KRX:005935) already has a 12-inch tablet model in the market and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will soon launch the ‘iPad Pro’ tablet which too has a 12-inch screen.
More tablets coming next year
Sony has plans of releasing a large screen tablet with 12.9-inch display in the first half of next year, according to DigiTmes informing of the company’s plans of beginning with the mass production of the device. The device would have a screen resolution of 3840 x 2400. It would be powered with a Qualcomm processor and an 8MP camera. Pegatron would reportedly mass-produce the 8.6mm thick device. The manufacturer also produces devices for Apple and Microsoft i.e. iPad and Surface respectively.
The publication, further, informed that Sony Corp (ADR)(NYSE:SNE) is targeting the high-end segment of the market with the device that would supposedly cost more than $1000 though there is no information when the company will launch it. In the year 2015, we might see many more vendors coming with large screen tablets as informed by DigiTimes citing sources familiar with Sony Corp (ADR)(NYSE:SNE)’s supply chain. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) would launch iPad Pro, which is a 12-inch screen tablet, sometime next year.
Is Apple planning a 4-inch iPhone?
Separately, in 2015, we might get to see a new iPhone from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) that will appeal to all those who find the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus too big. The new device is rumored to be four inches big, and could be very much similar to the iPhone 5S. It too will have ‘curved screen edges’ like the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Apple Insider obtained a note from Timothy Arcuri, an analyst at Cowen and Company, through which the said information was obtained.
Rumors about Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) releasing a 4-inch iPhone have been doing the rounds since long and Arcuri’s information could be correct or incorrect. The new device could be expected in the second half of 2015 claims an earlier rumor, suggesting we would get to see the launch of the 4-inch iPhone 6 probably in September.
