Skype London Office to be shut down

There are fears as raised by Financial Times that Microsoft may close its Skype London offices that it first started out from in 2003 with the risk of 400 people losing their jobs.

They reported that Microsoft has already concluded to unify the position of some of their engineers such that a good number of them will take up Yammer and Skype roles globally.

Since the acquisition of Skype in 2011 at the rate of $8.5 billion, the company has maintained sole ownership and seems to be making move into consolidating its control over it in Redmond.

A former worker at Skype, Dan Wellman earlier in the year said that Microsoft without wasting much time made sure to replace managers with their own managers and connect them with the main company. Another former employee has described Microsoft as a shadow of what it used to be.

The changes can already be seen in the new architectural design of Skype client on their own that is different from the P2P roots to hub architecture that is centralized. What this implies is that the services will be better and of more quality.  The company has also been working to merge their software offerings with services with the latest being the Windows 10 that is calling on people to send SMS with the client.

This new move is one that we are yet to know if it will cause more harm than good. Only time will tell.
