One of the matches that have been planned for the longest time for this year’s Wrestlemania 33 was the battle of the two giants. This was maybe the last Mania in the career of the Big Show, and the company wanted to have him going up against Shaquille O’Neal. It is a fun matchup for the mainstream audience as it would draw a lot of non-wrestling fans to check out this edition of Wrestlemania.

The rumors for this duel started in the fall of 2016, but then everything got canceled about a month and a half before the event. Nobody really knew the reason for the cancellation of this match until Shaq himself explained what happened during a podcast. Here is what NBA legend had to say.

“Because they kept playing,” Shaq started explaining why the match never happened. “First, they said it was me and Big Show. Then, they said it was going to be 3 on 3. Then, they canceled it so when they canceled it, I made other arrangements. And then they tried to call back and tried to get it done, and I just said, ‘I’m not going to do it.’ They messed it up.”

The person that was interviewing Shaquille O’Neal said that he thought that the match got nixed because Shaq is competitive and he didn’t want to lose and take the fall in this showdown. Shaq told him that he would have taken the loss if it was needed to as it is all for the kids and he would have done it for them.
