If you’re just starting out with your website, there are many things that you can easily do by yourself to improve your SEO over time, and just like the SEO masters, you can do a preliminary check of your website.

Not only will you find out just how much SEO you need to order, but also you will further improve the SEO process yourself, and eliminate precious time that would be wasted if you made someone else do all of the work (which means that this can save you some money in the long run for how long you may have to pay an SEO expert of company to do everything).

This list is a compilation of tips of search engine optimization & marketing tips you can do yourself.

1. Keyword Optimization

You know what your keywords are intended to be, but you’re unsure of just how many people will use these keywords at any given time. For a good SEO and marketing campaign, you want your business to show up in high rankings when it comes to some of the most searched material. Using products like Google’s Keyword Planner (You may have to set up an AdSense account which is free, but you don’t actually have to post any ads), you can do proper research on your own keywords on and off-site related to your website and it’s content. It will ensure that it is being used properly in your site to it’s fullest potential. This is something that can improve your quality of content (which an SEO expert would check also), and can increase your rankings on major search engines.

2. Know Thy Enemies

Think about all of the products you may offer to customers. Or even the services. Now think about how many people in your general area, or even nationwide (you want to think about your service area here) that offer the same thing. It’s a pretty vast dog-eat-dog world out there. Are other companies ranked high? Look at their keywords and go to their website to see repetitive quips and phrases that may be throughout their site. Question your website structure, website content, and features that may entice users to give them a higher reputation and recommendations over yours.

3. Have a Plan

So many people rush into a business and site thinking that they can just throw it on there and “POOF!” everything will work itself out. This isn’t the case. Use a spreadsheet of all of your web pages to analyze your site’s structure. Also, you can check to see the keyword count for whatever that page’s keywords you want them to be by using Keyword Density Checkers online to see how heavily your keywords are used on each page. In the past, it was only popular for long tail keywords to be used on sites such as AskJeeves and other search engines where they took keyword optimization from long-chain keywords and questions. Now even Google has incorporated some of those algorithms, and it’s not uncommon for many people worldwide to type actual full questions into a search engine.

Is that all?

Absolutely not, from understanding how sites like Google analyze your web traffic, to social media optimization, public relations and word of mouth advertising (you can do much of this yourself. Pass out business cards literally everywhere), and constant content production. Google likes seeing sites that are bustling with activity, even if it’s just constant changes in content or additions. Also, don’t forget to optimize your website. You want your website to be optimized for both desktop computers and mobile phones since mobile devices are the primary way people both browse and shop online.
