Samsung will launch two flagship phones in 2017 – the Galaxy Note 8 and the Galaxy S8. Both of these devices will receive some new features as they will try to beat the new iPhones that are also going to be launched later this year.

As we all remember, the Note 7 was discontinued because of the battery problems which caused the phone to catch fire. After that, we were not sure whether the Note 8 would be introduced at all, but Dongjin Koh confirmed the arrival of the new phone about a week ago. He told CNET: “I will bring back a better, safer and very innovative Note 8.”

Samsung Galaxy S8 Release Date

The Samsung Galaxy S8 will be the first one to arrive, as it will be unveiled on March 29 in New York City, according to VentureBeat. The S8 will go on sale April 21, and the release of the new phone has been postponed because of the whole Note 7 situation, as the Wall Street Journal reports. The Galaxy Note is always introduced in the fall, but considering that the S8 has been postponed slightly, it is possible that the Note 8 will be introduced later than expected.

Galaxy S8 Models and Prices

The S8 will come in two variants, as a 5.8-inch model and a 6.2-inch model, which are codenamed Dream and Dream 2, respectively. According to Twitter user @Ricciolo1, the Galaxy S8 will cost $849. As Venture Beats reports, both models will be $107 more expensive compared to the previous phones, which means that the 5.8-inch model will cost $855 whereas the 6.2-inch one should start at $962.

Drawn from the previous experience, we can conclude that South Korean tech giant will launch one model of the phablet. So far, there aren’t any indications of how much the new Samsung devices will cost. The price of Galaxy S8 could go up, while the price of Note 8 should stay the same as the one of Note 7 just to regain the trust of the customers.

Iris Scanner

The Note 7 boasted the iris scanner, which the owners used to unlock their devices and considering that the problems of the Note 7 were related to the battery, the iris scanner should also be a feature on the new Note 8. The S8 will come with the same technology as well.

S Pen Stylus

The larger Samsung Galaxy S8 will be equipped with S Pen stylus, according to GSM Arena. The BGR reported that the S8 would come with the built-in stylus, but this turned out to be only an option. Speaking of Note 8, it too should bring this addition, since the Note 7 had one. The S Pen Stylus is water- and dust-resistant, and it features translation services and animated image creation.

Other Features

The Samsung Galaxy S8 will have 6GB of RAM, 256GB of internal storage and QHD Super AMOLED display. Some speculated that like the iPhone 7, the Galaxy S8 would come without a headphone jack. On the other hand, Guardian underlined that a “traditional 3.5mm headphone socket” will be included. Reuters reported that the S8 will be offered with an artificial intelligence digital assistant service.

Stay tuned for more details.
