Samsung Galaxy Note 8 – Born From the Note 7 Flames

It’s not hard to remember the previous version of Note, the one that went out in flames. Well, that one is behind us, and South Korean tech giant decided to make amends. On our hands now we have Samsung Galaxy Note 8. This model comes with dual camera, infinity screen, and a ton of style.

The new device couldn’t come at a better time. The general public was waiting for new Note 8 and everything that it brings to the table. After the last year’s fiasco, Samsung is now hoping to leave a better impression. Much Better! With big display (infinity screen) and dual camera setup, they are trying to reassure previous owners and to be highly competitive with rivals.

The funnily named ‘phablet’ segment was a place where Samsung was dominating for years. With Galaxy Note 8 they are aiming at re-establishing themselves there. With original 2011 Galaxy Note, the South Korean company achieved great success. Most of it went in flames with Note 7, but now things will change. Samsung believes that they have a winning formula with 8-series. It consists of a large display, outstanding specs, long battery life, and as we mentioned an awe-inspiring design.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Specs

The running gear behind Galaxy Note 8 is Android 7.1.1 Nougat, the said infinity display is a 6.3in Quad HD+, the exterior is mainly based on the Galaxy S8+ (that’s a good thing), and a dual camera brings 12-megapixel sensor and is equipped with biometric security. The latter one includes a fingerprint scanner, iris scanner, and facial recognition.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 was launched yesterday in New York. Upon its release, DJ Koh, president of Samsung mobile, stated the following: “We appreciate the relentless passion of the Note community. They’ve been a constant inspiration to us, and we designed the new Note for them. From the Infinity Display to the smarter S Pen and the most powerful Dual Camera, the Galaxy Note 8 lets people do things they never thought were possible.”

The Note 8 is not a smartphone that is going to duel only with its competitors. Its biggest rival is going to be its past. The debacle that was Samsung Note 7 is not one easy to forget. Both old and new customers will be afraid that Galaxy Note 8 might disappoint them as well. Remember, Note 7 was recalled. Each and every piece of 7-series was withdrawn from the market.

Upon the launch, Ben Wood, head of research at CCS Insight, had to say the following: “It’s a testament to Samsung’s stubbornness and determination that the launch of the Note 8 cements its position as the leading Android smartphone maker, drawing a clear line under the Note 7 problems.”

The first phone that was released by Samsung after the Note 7 issues was the Galaxy S8. This device was successful at removing some of the Note 7 failures and Koreans believe that this is where the foundations stone of Galaxy Note 8 lies.

With 8-Series of Note, the company is having set of independent tests to assure every one of its quality. Sajeev Jesudas, president of UL International, stated that the Note 8 had “rigorous series of device and battery safety compatibility test protocols.”

The display on Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is bigger than the one on Galaxy S8+. At the same time, it has less curved edges, so the stylus is easier to use. DeX accessory is also available for this model. This feature enables Note 8 to be used as a computer when paired with monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Together with all of this already mentioned, the biggest improvement on Note 8 is its dual camera. This is the first time that Samsung introduced this on its Note devices. Considering that Huawei, LG, and Apple already have this, it was about time.

So, there are two 12-megapixel cameras on the back. The first one has a telephoto-like two-times zoom, while the other one comes with a more traditional wide-angle lens. iPhone 7 has this for some time now, but Samsung managed to better it. Note 8’s cameras have optical image stabilization which removes blur and camera shake.

On this subject, Wood said: “Having image stabilization on both lenses takes Samsung one step ahead of Apple, but at present, there don’t appear to be any plans to support augmented reality features – something we expect to feature prominently on the next iPhone.”

Apple’s next iPhone is projected to be released in September. Like usually this will be Note’s biggest rival and one to surpass.

Wood said: “By launching the Note 8 now, Samsung gets the oxygen of publicity ahead of Apple’s highly anticipated iPhone 8. Samsung will be hoping that a trio of competitive high-end products – the Note 8, S8 and S8+ – will appeal to anyone looking for a new Android phone. Furthermore, these devices are certainly good enough to turn the heads of a few iPhone owners who fancy a trying a different device.”

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will have 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage with a microSD card slot, Bluetooth 5.0, and will come in four colors. The colors include different variations of gold, silver, blue, and gray.
