Samsung Electronics Offers Evolutionary Upgrades on Galaxy S5

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd (KRX:005935) revealed its next generation smartphone, the Galaxy S5 evolutionary upgrades during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) at Barcelona, Spain on Monday.

According to South Korean electronics manufacturer, consumer will experience an enhanced experience with the innovations in the essential features of the new Galaxy S5. JK Shin, president and head of IT & Mobile Communications division at Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd (KRX:005935) said, “With the Galaxy S5, Samsung is going back to basics to focus on delivering the capabilities that matter most to our consumers.”

During the event, Samsung’s vice president of telecoms in Europe, Jean-Daniel Ayme said the company designed the Galaxy S5 to better fit the hands of users and described the back cover of the product “shimmering.” According to him, the user interface of the device is simple and organized with bigger icons. He emphasized that users will be able to see the screen easily even under a bright sunlight. The smartphone sports a 5.1” FHD Super AMOLED (1920 x 1080) display.

The Galaxy S5 comes with a 16MP rear and 2.1MP front cameras. Ayme emphasized that smartphone is integrated with a DSLR-like function (selective focus) wherein users will be able to capture photographs with a depth of field. It has UHD@30fps, HDR, and video stabilization.

In terms of download speed, Ayme said the Galaxy S5 has a blazing fast download speed. According to him users will be able to download one gigabit content in just 30 seconds. He said, “Your movie will be ready to go before your popcorn has finished popping.” Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd (KRX:005935) equipped the smartphone with a Download Booster.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is powered the Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat operating system and integrated with 2.5 GHz quad core application processor, LTE Cat.4 (150/50Mbps) , LTE, Cat.4 (150/50 Mbps), 802.11ac with 2X2 MIMO Wi-Fi,with 2GB RAM, 16 GB/32 GB internal memory, and up to 32 GB microSD slot.

As expected, the Galaxy S5 is integrated with a fingerprint scanner and other sensors such as accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, barometer, RGB ambient light, gesture (IR), and heart rate. It has a long battery life (21 hours talk time and 390 hours standby time) with power saving mode. The smartphone is iP67 scratch and water resistant.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 with its new Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches will be available in 150 countries on April 11.
