Rey Mysterio is Close To WWE Return – Joins The Company In Saudi Arabia

The talks about Rey Mysterio coming back to WWE are getting louder. Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion hasn’t worked for the company since 2015. In the midtime, he was active on the independent circuit, AAA promotions, and New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW).

The stories of his return got to a whole new level after he made a surprise appearance during Royal Rumble event in January. He entered the bout at No27, failed to win it, but made quite an impression nonetheless. The WWE Universe was thrilled seeing him back in action.

During the previous few weeks and months he was negotiating the conditions of his return, but for now, he and the company failed to find common ground. But despite not signing with WWE, he is expected to participate in the Greatest Royal Rumble Event in Saudi Arabia. The question of his contract remains in the air for now.

According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, he has not signed anything with the biggest company in the business.

In his wrestling career with WWE Rey Mysterio has won three World Titles, four Tag Team Titles, three Cruiserweight Titles, two International Titles, and 2016 Royal Rumble. Having a fighter of this pedigree back with the company would be a huge boost.

While guesting at E&C’s Pod Of Awesomeness, Mysterio talked about his, we hope imminent, return. Mysterio said: “Right now, it’s just a matter of if there is an interest, I really think there is on both ends, as much as from WWE and myself, to eventually go back and do some work with them. I would love to eventually sit down and see if we can come up with a gameplan. I don’t see why that couldn’t happen, so I’m up for it and looking forward to it, to actually sit down and [converse] about some potential work with the company.”

Apparently, both parties are interested in cooperation so what’s the issue? Why hasn’t he signed yet? Like it’s usually the case, the problem is probably the money. But, there’s time for them to reach an agreement, and for the sake of WWE fans, we hope it will be soon.

Rey finished his interview with Edge and Christian by saying: “I’m excited to be able to sit down and come up with a gameplan. And hopefully, that will happen.” We hope so too.
