Is Revis Island Still A Place To Avoid?

Darrelle Revis has always been considered to be one of the best NFL’s cornerbacks of all time and not just right now. He is one of the best that has ever stepped on NFL turf. This man was a shutdown corner, and nobody could escape from Revis Island. When you were on it, going one on one with Darrelle, you knew that it was going to be a long night.

Now, it looks like players can escape from the island from time to time and A.J Green showed that on Sunday as he dominated his matchup with Darrelle Revis. One of the best NFL’s wideouts was able to catch a 55-yard TD by straight up burning Revis and making him look like a backup CB.

AJ Green is a great player, and there is no shame in getting beaten by him, but Revis was always able to at least stay with the best receivers if not shut them down completely. This time, he was not even close.

It’s still just a Week 1, but Revis hasn’t looked this bad in a while. We’ll have a chance to see if this was just one bad game while playing against one of the best Wide Receivers or it was a proof that Revis’ best days are behind him and that he is no longer the shutdown corner he used to be.

He will be matched up with Sammy Watkins for most of the Thursday night. Darrelle did have some troubles with him in the past as Bills’ wideout was able to gain some yards on him in past encounters. We’ll see if Watkins gets stuck on Revis Island or if he runs the circles around it.
