A defensive end for Dallas Cowboys Randy Gregory is set to have a sit down with NFL officials, possibly even commissioner Roger Goodell, to discuss his suspension and reinstatement.

He is represented by Daniel Moskowitz, the attorney who helped Daryl Washington from Arizona Cardinals get his suspension lifted last year. Mr. Moskowitz declined to comment on the case.

Vice president of the Cowboys organization Stephen Jones said that the team isn’t trying to influence the decision and that they have left it in the league’s hands entirely.

“We don’t have anything to report differently, other than that I know he’s wanting to move forward with the appeal,” Jones said. “I don’t really have anything new to report on that front other than that. I know he’s done the application process, but I’m pretty sure he hasn’t had the actual appeal. It’s in the league’s hands.”

When he first came into the league, Gregory was hailed as one of the top prospects. He had incredible preseason, and an excellent first three quarters against New York Giants in the season opener, only to suffer an ankle injury in the fourth that took him out of the field for the next four games.

Gregory has been suspended since 2016. His first failed illegal substance test in February brought him a four-game suspension. Just a few months later, he failed the second test and was sent to a treatment facility for rehabilitation. Pending his return, Cowboys removed him from the team roster. He was also suspended for 10 games.

In November Gregory failed yet another test and this time received a one-year suspension. Out of last 32 Cowboys games, he missed 30.

He has filed his reinstatement papers with the league, and now commissioner has 60 days to make a decision.

Gregory has received support from several of his teammates, namely Tyrone Crawford, Sean Lee and Jeff Heath, who all wrote letters to the commissioner on his behalf.

“It’s best he’s back in the locker room, [that] he’s back around us,” Crawford said, “I think it will be good for him and good for us.”

Jerry Jones also voiced his support for the Cowboys defensive end: “I have been proud of Randy during this offseason,” Jones said in May. “I’m very aware of how hard he’s working to get back in the league and get back on the field.”
