Porsche’s Mission E Hits the Road

Tesla is the largest electric vehicle carmaker, and it is hard for the other manufacturers to compete with them on the same level. It appears that Porsche has a solution as its new Mission E, which is going to debut in 2019, has hit the road for some tests.

According to Autocar and Autoblog, the vehicle you can see in the photos is a “near-production” model and although it has been toned down significantly when compared to the concept it still looks fantastic as it brings the recognizable Porsche look.

Some of the benchmark statistics about the Porsche Mission E were familiar to us, but it appeared that they have been fluctuating ever since the car’s announcement. Hitachi is reportedly producing the car batteries which will help the car go around 320 miles per charge. In case you drain them, you shouldn’t worry because they can be recharged to 80% in just quarter of an hour.

Under the skin, the Mission E will feature two motors for the combined output of 590 horsepower, allowing the car to hit the 60 mph mark from a standstill in about 3.5 seconds. Even though it is not as fast as the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, it is going to be cheaper with the price tag approximately at $100,000.

We expect lots of autonomous driving features as well as over-the-air upgrades, just like it is the case with Tesla’s cars. However, you will not be able to relax completely and let the car do all the work. The company’s chairman, Oliver Blume told Autocar: “There are situations in traffic jams where you will be able to read a newspaper, but our customers take pleasure from driving and this will remain.”

Porsche has been struggling lately since it was caught up in the emission cheating scandal as a part of the Volkswagen Group. Also, they had to recall 22,000 of their diesel SUVs because of the “defeat devices” which were used to skirt emissions tests. Hopefully, the Mission E is going to be a success, and so far it appears that Porsche has been going in the right direction.
