Piper Jaffray Details On Expected Price Of Apple Inc. (AAPL) Watch Versions

Apple Watch will come with a starting price tag of $349, and trusted analyst Gene Munster note that average selling price will come somewhere around $550, or $575 to $600, according to a report from Apple Insider. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will launch its smartwatch in three separate categories; Apple Watch Sport, Apple Watch and Apple Watch Edition each series including two display sizes and a variety of strap choices.

Expected ASP of Apple Watch

Out of the three versions, Apple Watch Sport, the aluminum and glass version will be priced at the lowest price point. Munster estimate average selling price of $450 after factoring in configuration alternatives like case and integral storage operations. Another version, which is expected to be made of stainless steel and is packed with the more expensive sapphire glass cover, is expected to be priced at $499 to $549, depending on customizable features. The analyst expects, overall average share price to be around $650 for the mid-tier Watch series.

The highest version could start at around $4,999, but the classified one could have ASP closer to $7,500 after adding straps of precious metals. Munster, further, noted that the Apple Watch straps will be available to the customers in the price range of $29 to $35, whereas leather bands could be priced between $49 and $59.

How much will Bands contribute?

Estimating the price of metal bands like the link and Milanese loop is difficult to determine, but the analyst is expecting it to be somewhere around $99, whereas gold bands could come with the price tag in thousands of dollars.

“If you assume that 55 percent of bands purchased are elastomer, 35 percent leather, 10 percent steel, and about 5,000 total gold bands are sold, the average band ASP could be around $50,” Munster writes.

According to Munster, if Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) succeeds in selling 8 million gadgets in 2015, and half of all Watch buyers purchase a band then the accessory range will add $25 to Apple’s Watch category, totaling to $575 ASP. And, if every buyer goes for an extra strap, it would total to $50 bringing ASP up to $600.

Munster expect Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) to provide more details on the pricing at the March 9 event along with talking about the “special features” to tweak consumer interest ahead of release.
