Apple Inc. (AAPL)’s Apple-1 By Jobs to Fetch Big Money

Apple New York Store

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s very first computers were hand made by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak in a garage nearly 40 years back. And one of them will be auctioned soon, and is expected to fetch 330,000 pounds. The auction of Apple-1 will take place in Bonhams on September 21 with a conservative estimate of 330,000 pounds. This computer has been well preserved, and is in a fully functional state.

Apple-1 PC fully functional, well preserved

The Byte Shop was the first client of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), and its first batch of computers included the Apple-1 Computer motherboard. It costed 437 pounds originally. The PC sat on the shelf for quite a while until the owner, Tom Romkey dusted dust off it, after noticing that a similar gadget fetch 563,904 pounds at an auction last year. Therefore, he decided to hold an auction for this device as well, according to a report in ‘Daily Express.’

The Auctioneer Cassandra Hatton, Bonhams’ director of History of Science and Technology, said “This is from the first batch of 50 because they received an order from the Byte Shop who put inventory numbers on them with a security pen.”

A member of the Board of Directors for Mid-Atlantic Retro Computing Hobbyists Museum, Corey Cohen, who is also an Apple-1 expert, says, “It’s nearly 40 years old, next year. It’s one of the best condition Apple-1s we’ve ever seen – not just at auction, but at any physical place at all.” The official Apple 1 registry has just 66 surviving authentic Apple-1’s listed on it currently.

Jobs played no role in designing

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) co-founder Steve Wozniak claims that he is the only person behind designing of the first Apple computers i.e. Apple-I and Apple-II. According to Woz, apart from the computers, he also designed other stuffs for the enhancement of the computer such as printer interfaces, serial interfaces and floppy disks all on his own, and Jobs played no role in it.

Woz said that Steve was not aware about technology and had no experience of designing anything as a hardware engineer. Jobs was interested in being a business person as they are important people, Woz said in an interview with 14-year-old entrepreneur Sarina Khemchandani.
