Rumor has it that Disney and Lucasfilm could be making another Star Wars standalone film just about Obi-Wan Kenobi. Everything is still in early development, so there is no cast or script attached to it, but these two are currently negotiating it with director Stephen Daldry. Namely, if the movie really happens and if it happens between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, the Chosen One for the role should be Ewan McGregor.

Firstly, McGregor stated at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2015 that he would be more than pleased to return to the Star Wars Universe. Secondly, he shared a similar opinion in an interview with Collider in 2016 about his wish to do an Obi-Wan movie. Lastly, his voice was in The Force Awakens in the role of Obi-Wan together with Alec Guinness.

Therefore, it seems that McGregor is ready to be Obi-Wan once again. It’s likely that he has already discussed this with Lucasfilm. Apart from these solid reasons for him to be the “lunatic old Jedi” Ben Kenobi, there are several more.

His age is perfect for older and more grizzled Obi-Wan. About 19 years passed in the Star Wars between Episodes III and IV and 12 have passed since Revenge of the Sith. Furthermore, he knows the character. He played him in three movies and did it in a perfect way, bringing a certain energy and a great sense of humor to the scenes. And just remember his intensity when uttering the line “You were the Chosen One.” It seems that no one could do it better than this guy.

Just imagine what kind of a character McGregor would make out of pensive and possibly bored Obi-Wan who is always out of sight and out of mind. He would certainly be amazing. Nonetheless, since nothing official has been said yet, we can only sit and wait to see whether he will be the Chosen One.
