Nintendo Switch – innovation or a fail? The company received a lot of criticism regarding their latest console Nintendo Switch. Numerous fans just didn’t like the concept of it, and it is understandable. However, as a new device, it is quite an interesting one. Let’s see what may pursue us into buying it.

Innovative design

When you buy an Xbox or a Sony PlayStation console, you usually expect to get a console, controller, and some cords. Quite ordinary and dull some may say. That’s where Nintendo Switch is different. When you buy it, you get the Switch itself, two separate Joy-Con controllers, the dock and a Grip accessory used for the Joy-Cons when they are not attached to Switch.

It may sound complex now, but you won’t need a user manual to get the party starting. That’s the beauty of it. You will figure it all out in a few minutes even if you have never seen a Switch before. And that’s good because people of all ages can do it. The Wii console was extremely successful because almost everyone could play. It’s fairly easy to get used to it. And once you get used to it, hours of fun are guaranteed.

Portability

Nintendo delivered on its promise to bring a gadget that is both the home console and a portable one. The action of ‘switching’ from TV mode to handheld mode is swift and easy. Buyers will get used to it in a day or two. A few weeks later, the feeling will still be the same. It won’t wear off. This concept sounded crazy, but Nintendo made it work, and they have done it properly!

Upcoming games

We know that the original lineup from the launch didn’t look too good, but at least now we have something to look forward to. It is all relative considering how Nintendo just doesn’t quite manage to release quality titles consistently but here are some of the most promising ones. We had Zelda at launch, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in April, we expect Super Mario Odyssey this fall and Splatoon 2 this summer. On top of that, tech giant promised at least 60 indie games for the Switch. Among those are Terraria, Shovel Knight, Stardew Valley and Thumper. If Nintendo manages to release these games, we might be looking at a good year for the Switch. And it surely didn’t seem so in the beginning.

Battery

We played with Switch for some time and, to be honest, battery life surprised us a bit. It could have been even better, but we were really surprised with how long it lasted. We tested it on Zelda: Breath of the Wild and to be fair, only once we had to kind of swiftly run and put it back into the dock to charge. Of course, that is not the only way to charge it. You can buy a USB-C cable which will make your life easier.

Forget the Wii U

It’s safe to say that Wii U has been at least, partially a fail. I will be kind enough to say it like that. However, Nintendo clearly knows how to make a fun console, they’ve just proven it with the Switch. Instead of doing so many things, Nintendo Switch specializes in only one. And that one is the portability. Even though it is a multifunctional gadget, the sole purpose of it is to be portable. And we think that it is the best portable game console there is.
