The first Nickelodeon Theme Park will be built in the Middle East by IMG Worlds and Viacom International Media Networks. This Park will be located in Dubai, and it will have up to 12 Nickelodeon-branded attractions and rides. The construction of this park will start in 2017, and some of the properties will include SpongeBob Square Pants and TMNT. The Nickelodeon Theme Park will be open for visitors in 2019.
The Nickelodeon Park will be the part of the IMG Worlds of Legends theme park. Gerald Raines, SVP, Global Recreation Business Development, Nickelodeon said: “We are working with IMG to develop a Nickelodeon park within their larger Worlds of Legends theme park which is the phase two of their Worlds of Adventure theme park that opened earlier this year.”
He also added: “The Nickelodeon area will be part of a park with other non-Nick properties, including Cartoon Network and Marvel.” This will definitely be one of the largest parks with Nickelodeon theme in the world, but the details about its size are still unknown.
There are many Nickelodeon attraction and facilities across the globe such as Nickelodeon Hotels and Resorts in the Dominican Republic or the Nickelodeon Land at Parque de Atracciones de Madrid in Spain. You can also visit the Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon in Malaysia or Nickelodeon Land at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in the UK and have a great time. Some of the Nickelodeon-branded attraction in the US are Nickelodeon Universe in Minneapolis’ Mall of America and attractions at Universal Studios in Orlando and Hollywood.
“Our U.S. base is strong but we are seeing the most growth in this sector internationally, where there are emerging markets that are craving Western IPs,” Raines stated.
This Theme Park in Dubai is an essential project for Viacom as well. Raffaele Annecchino, President and MD of Viacom International Media Networks for Southern & Western Europe, Middle East and Africa stated: “Our Arab channels are working very well and our Nickelodeon Play apps are going especially strong in a region where 44% of kids consume their content digitally. We want Nickelodeon to be the top kids’ brand in the Arab world.”
IMG Worlds of Legends will consist of nine areas over more than eight acres. In addition to Nickelodeon, there will also be Mattel and Ubisoft zones. Leonardo Otto, CEO of IMG Worlds said: “IMG Worlds continues to attract truly international brands to Dubai. We are now one of the principal players in the theme-park industry.”
