This year’s December will be great! Don’t miss any of these releases! Even though Silence, the newest Martin Scorsese’s film will receive a wide release in January 2017, the Paramount Pictures announced it will open in limited release on the 23rd of December. The film is made in association with Fabrica de Cine and Ai Films. The screenplay was written by Scorsese himself with the help of Jay Cocks (Gangs of New York), and it is actually based on the book with the same title that Japanese Shusaku Endo wrote in 1966.

There are several producers. First of all, Scorsese and Emma Tillinger Koskoff (The Wolf of Wall Street), as well as Randall Emmett (Lone Survivor), Irwin Winkler (Creed), Vittorio Cecchi Gori (Il Postino), Barbara Defina (Goodfellas). Lead financing was taken care by Gaston Pavlovich’s company Fabrica de Cine and Dale A. Brown, Executive Producer of Sharpsword Films.

As for the actors, there are some really big names there. Let’s just mention Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spider-Man, The Social Network), Liam Neeson (Taken) Adam Driver (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Girls), Tadanobu Asano (Thor). Furthermore, we have Issey Ogata (The Sun), Yosuke Kubozuka (Go), and Yoshi Oida (The Pillow Book), and Ciaran Hinds (Bleed for This).

There is an interesting situation with Liam Neeson. On the same date, December 23, another film where he plays will be released (wide release on the 6th of January 2017). That movie is “A Monster Calls” by Antonio Bayona, and it is set for a limited release as well. Stars are Lewis MacDougall, Felicity Jones, Sigourney Weaver and Toby Kebbell.

That’s not all for December. Two days before the “Silence”, “Passengers” – a sci-fi drama from Sony Pictures, will be released. Also, Assassin’s Creed from 20th Century Fox and a musical Sing from Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment are coming in December. December 21 is bringing us “Patriot’s Day”, a Peter Berg’s true Boston Marathon bombing tale, and “Julieta” by Pedro Almodóvar as well. Even more, on Christmas, “Gold” with Matthew McConaughey and “Why Him” with Bryan Cranston and James Franco are coming out. Write down these dates and movies, make sure not to miss any of these!
