Is the luxury truck segment a market gold mine? Ford thinks it is!

There have been some attempts of building upscale trucks, but it seems like all of those ended badly. Remember when Cadillac copied Chevy Avalanche and released the Escalade EXT or when Ford rebadged the F-150 just so they could sell it as a Lincoln Mark LT? If you don’t remember what happened to them we’ll tell you – they were dead soon after and they are considered to be mistakes! On the other hand, Americans adore big cars, it seems that bigger is better in America but seeing that Mercedes doesn’t sell the X-Class there, special edition trucks come in to save the day!

Ford has always had an ear for the public and what they want, so they recently announced a new limited edition Super Duty pickup that is handmade for those super-humans with super-heavy needs. Let’s just note that it isn’t the F-150 facelift, sorry. The company seems to have focused on customers with heavy-duty towing needs when they designed the F-250, F-350, and F-450 Super Duty Limited. In their official press release, they specifically address boat captains and ‘captains of industry’! Ford feels that they should be the ones to hop in their new truck. People that have towable yachts are surely wealthy enough to tow it with the new Blue Oval made pickup, right?

These rich entrepreneurs or Ford’s target audience live lives where a simple Bentley or a Porsche Cayenne isn’t fun enough or isn’t capable of fulfilling their needs. Todd Eckert, Ford Truck group marketing manager, said how ‘The Super Duty lineup is a win for all of our customers, from successful ranchers to contractors to RV owners. Super Duty Limited is the most luxurious and advanced heavy-duty pickup truck ever created by Ford for accomplished buyers, with appetites for the high life and hard-earned dollars to match.’ Super Duty Limited version has a cabin where you’ll sit in Camelback two-tone leather seats, and you’ll steer on stitched leather-wrapped wheels! The other perks come in the form of suede headliners, ash wood trim and specially-designed badging.

Folks at Ford also paid attention to technology. Standard package consists of adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, adaptive steering, lane-keep assist, a panoramic moonroof, heated and cooled seating surfaces, and a heated steering wheel. Taking that this truck has ‘Limited’ in its name the price is considerably hefty. The F-250 Super Duty Limited starts at $80,835 (a base F-250 is only $32,890) while the F-350 Limited and F-450 Limited start at $82,010 and $87,100 respectively. If you decide to buy the F-450 Limited with all optional features you’ll reach $94,455. Wow, that’s almost $100,000 for a truck. And considering how well it’s made we wouldn’t blame you if you spent that much.

Is it worth the cash? What do you think about this truck? Feel free to leave a comment.
