Cadillac’s boss clears the air when it comes to the new crossover below XT5. The name will be XT4 despite all the rumors claiming differently.

In spite of speculations about the name of the Cadillac’s smaller crossover, Johan de Nysschen made an announcement in which he stated that the vehicle will be called XT4 and not XT3 as many speculated. He went on to say: ‘…we started seeing online reports of the prototypes undergoing testing and being mis-named. So before that went too far we thought we’d better fix it because we have no other model in that space.’ Reasonable words by the company’s president if we pay attention to company’s brand. Since people are talking about the vehicle that is to be launched next year it is only just to refer to it by its right name.

Cadillac XT4 Release Date

This model is an addition to Cadillac’s lineup below the midsize 2017 XT5, and it is expected to arrive by the autumn of 2018. We had some photos of the camouflaged test prototypes, but unfortunately, we couldn’t see much. However, we’ve spotted that XT4 will have same underpinnings as the GMC Terrain and Chevrolet Equinox.

We also speculate that the entry model will bring a front-wheel drive setup, but we are quite certain that Caddy will produce an all-wheel drive model too. What we’ve also gathered from the spy photos is that there will be an intercooler behind the front fascia, so we are expecting a 2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder engine which will place XT4 just alongside the GMC’s and Chevy’s model’s powertrain range.

The company’s president also revealed a part of their plans for the next two years. We are to expect at least five vehicles which are approximately one for every six months. After the XT4 launch, we should see a larger CUV that will come as a transition between XT5 and Escalade. Another thing worth mentioning is the probable production of a sedan (most likely to utilize a front-wheel drive system) that will be right below the elegant ATS.

If the car maker decides to a bold move like this, it will have fierce competition in Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class and Audi A3. Last but not least, Cadillac is also designing an SUV that is supposed to be their flagship. Therefore, expect a six-figure price tag because Caddy doesn’t mess around when it comes to flagship models.
