It takes the time to develop young talent. The fans always want their rookies to make a big impact right from the get-go, but that really rarely happens. When you have a rookie like LeBron James was back in 2004, you are going to get an impact player right away. There is only one guy in this rookie class that is doing it showing superstar qualities from the start. He is playing for the Philadelphia 76sixers. Drafted back in 2014, but hasn’t played until this year.
Yeah, we all know who it is. It’s Sixers center Joel Embiid. At this point of the season, it looks like nobody will challenge Embiid for this award. He is already one of the best centers in the NBA and the future of the franchise. He has scored over 20 points in eight straight games now, and it seems that defenders really can’t cope with his athletic ability that is very nicely combined with the skill.
He has a decent jumper, pretty good one for a center, can make something happen on the low block and is a good shot blocker and defender in his first season in the NBA. Not bad for a guy that has only played half of a season in the best basketball league in the world.
He is averaging 19.6 PPG, 7.6 RPG, and 2.0 APG while playing under 30 minutes per match. Actually, it’s only around 27 minutes per game as he is yet to record a duel in which he played over 30 mins. There is no doubt that Joel Embiid is our Rookie Of The Year.
