Microsoft (MSFT) Xbox One Sales Strong, But Not Enough To Beat Sony Corp (ADR) PS4

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) stated that it has sold more than 5 million Xbox One consoles to retailers worldwide, but Sony Corp (ADR)(NYSE:SNE) PS4 is still a winner in terms of sales. On Comparing both Sony PS4 sold over 7 million units to the consumers.

Titanfall failed to boost Xbox sales

According to the sales estimate of NPD, in March, PS4 was at the first place in the United States for straight third month. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) and Sony Corp (ADR)(NYSE:SNE) launched some of their latest gaming titles last month. Titanfall, which launched on both the consoles, was at the top spot and inFamous Second Son grabbed the second spot.

It was expected that Microsoft Xbox one may hit more sales number with the release of Titanfall, but it is still lagging behind Sony PS4. Also, though it is too early to say anything about the performance of both the gaming consoles, Xbox One will need few more good games to reach the level of PS4 in sales.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) accepted their mistake that it made with the launch and reassured that the gaming will be the top priority on the console from now onwards. The latest update of Microsoft Xbox One has string of new features and updates such as enhanced game and app store, in friend notification, Kinect voice and motion improvement.

Sales more impressive than previous versions

Sales of video games on all the platforms surged around 3% this month compared to the same period last month. Hardware was the major driver of sales surging almost 78% year over year, compensating for the 42% year over year drop in the software sales for March

Both Sony PS4 and Microsoft Xbox One are outnumbering their previous version in terms of sale. PS4 sales increased 94% from the sales clocked by PS3 back in 2007 for the five months. Xbox One sales are up 56%, which is a lifetime high for the gaming console compared to Xbox 360 at the same time after launch. In February, as well as, March Xbox One sales totaled to more than 60% over Xbox 360 sales back in 2006.
