Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) Tries To Woo Buyers With Low-Cost Lumia Series With Free Office 365

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has unveiled two new versions of Lumia series known as Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL. The announcement of the low-cost Windows Phones was made at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The software giant has also bundled free Office 365 app in phones.
The Office 365 giveaway in the new Lumia handsets is a personal version worth nearly $70 for a year. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is hoping that the Office giveaway will woo customers to by the budget phones and expand the adoption of Windows Phone.

The introduction of Lumia XL name is a move by Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) to eliminate the numbering confusion in the Lumia series. As such Lumia 640 XL replaced what was previously known as Lumia 1320 while Lumia 640 becomes the successor of Lumia 630. Each of these new devices come with internal improves that make them attractive phones for the budget price.

Specs

The smaller Lumia 640 spots a 5-inch display screen of 1280 x 720 in resolution. The device features Gorilla Glass 3 and comes with the popular Glance user interface. Lumia 640 is powered by a 1.2GHz chip and boasts 1GB of RAM and storage of 8GB.

The larger version Lumia 640 XL features 5.7-inch display and spots 1280 x 720 in screen resolution. Compared to predecessor Lumia 1320, Lumia 640 XL comes in a smaller display screen. Lumia 1320 had 6-inch display.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has not made compromises on the camera features of the budget phones. Lumia 640 comes with 8-MP back camera and 1-MP front camera. Microsoft has also bundled Lumia camera software with the Lumia 640 device. Lumia 640 XL spots 13-MP back camera and 5-MP front camera.

Prices

The budget phones start at $155 for the Lumia 640 and $211 for Lumia 640 XL. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) said the phones will be available in range of covering colors that include black, orange, white and cyan.

Low-cost focus on the mobile market is a strategy that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) hopes will enable it to lure app developers to help it enrich Windows Phone platform.
