Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Play Store has more than 300,000 apps to offer the users. This information has been pointed by WPCentral that came across a note released by the company on its webpage ‘by the Numbers’ informing the same. The same has been confirmed by the company, as well.

Microsoft catching quickly

A spokesperson at Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has informed that there are more than 300,000 Windows Phone apps available for download on the Windows Phone store, and the numbers will continue to grow in the future as well. The executive also informed that 94% growth in the catalog of Windows Phone Apps has been made in the short span of just one year. Also, a huge increase of 50% has been noted in the number of active developers.

The company achieved the milestone of 300,000 apps by the end of June 2014. The milestone of 100,000 apps was achieved in June 2012 and in December 2013 the company achieved another milestone of 200,000 apps. These figures represent accelerated growth overtime and as evident from the data, it took just six months for the company to add another 100,000 apps. The apps will also be upgraded from time to time by the developers making them more useful.

Competing with iOS and Android

While the hardware of the device acts as the body and software acts as the mind of a device, apps are the soul of a device and this is what attracts the users most. The apps not only help save time and money of the users, but also make life more convenient because of services like navigation. These play a vital role in influencing the buyers’ decisions, when making a smartphone purchase. The platform that offers maximum apps and the most useful ones is likely to be preferred more by the prospective buyers over the competing platforms.

The other leading platforms in the market are Android and iOS that have a large number of apps available on their app stores. In comparison Windows App Store does not offer even half the number of apps available on the iTunes App Store or Google Play.

With more apps available on the Windows Phone store it can be predicted that the sales too will go up. Many of the popular app developers are now interested in developing apps for the Windows platform. Recently, BlackBerry has released the BBM for Windows, which was already available on the iOS and Android platforms.
