US First Lady Melania Trump served as an inspiration to one language school in the Croatian capital, Zagreb. However, she didn’t like the advertisement with her picture, so she has threatened to sue this school because the billboard made fun of Melania Trump and her English accent.
An English language school in Zagreb is not powerful enough to face off with the US first lady in court, so they were forced to strip down the advertising billboards. Even though Melania has been married to Donald Trump, the incumbent president of the United States, for more than a decade, she still struggles with the English language which served as an inspiration to this school. The billboard had Melania Trump on it, next to a slogan which said: “Just imagine how far you can go with a little bit of English.”
Ivis Buric, who is a spokesperson for the school called American Institute and had to apologize to Melania. According to her, the billboards were “misunderstood as something intended to mock the US first lady,” and they were supposed “to show her as a role model.”
Buric admitted these billboards helped recruit new students all across the capital of Croatia and the campaign has proven to be “very successful.” However, an English school has not been the only problem Melania faces.
She was forced to hire a law firm with the particular task to protect her image in her native country, Slovenia, where a lot of people have been using her face without permission to advertise various items. Some of the items which have been marketed include cakes, ice creams, holiday packages, and underwear.
“I’m satisfied with the fact that the school admitted that they violated the law and that they are ready to remove the billboards and [Facebook] ads,” said Trump’s lawyer, Natasa Pirc-Musar. “We are still analyzing possible further legal steps.”
Melania Trump was born in Slovenia, which was a part of Yugoslavia at the time, as Melanija Knavs. She didn’t want to stay in Slovenia her entire life, so he left in her 20s to pursue her international modeling career. She was at a New York Fashion Week party in 1998 when she met the renowned businessman and now US president, Donald Trump.
