Master of None Season 3: Unfortunately Will Not Premiere Soon

In 2015, when Master of None Season 1 was broadcast, it was just what the audience was expecting. The storyline is about an actor named Dev, and he gives the viewers a good picture of a young life in the city, including friendships, food and relationships. In addition to that, the show was extremely funny, as it makes good use of Aziz Ansari’s experience in stand-up. When Master of None Season 2 was aired this April, it gave an even more complex examination of love. Understandably, the fans are eager to get more episodes, but at Vulture Fest on Saturday, Ansari disclosed that we wouldn’t get to see Season 2 anytime soon.

As it seems, the creator of the show is feeling a bit exhausted, and maybe he needs to lighten up a bit before starting a new season, despite the fact that the first two seasons received excellent reactions from the fans. In of the interviews, Ansari said: “To make something that people respond to like that doesn’t happen often. But I also wouldn’t want to do a third season that wasn’t as inspired.” He also added: “The reason we took a break between Season 1 and Season 2 is so we could make something that we really felt like was a step up, and I feel like we did. I wouldn’t want to step backwards and do something not as cool or exciting, so I don’t know.”

He also hesitated about stating whether Season 3 is happening or not. After this season, he was feeling slightly uninventive by the single life in NYC and now feels like he needs to find inspiration somewhere else before taking on another show. Ansari said: “Maybe we’d make a Season 3 a couple years from now, maybe we’d make another one when we’re like 60 years old.” He also added: “Part of the thing that’s hard is that we’ve done a lot of sh*t about me being a single dude in New York that eats a lot. I don’t know if I have many more observations. I need to live my life a little bit, maybe not eat, maybe get into a serious relationship and have a kid, and then maybe I’ll have more things to say.”

This isn’t good news for the show’s fans since the last season ended with a cliffhanger. Spoiler alert ahead! During the whole season, Dev is falling in love with Francesca, his Italian friend. Their relationship is complicated even more with her recent engagement. Obviously, Francesca cares about Dev too, but their romance is impossible due to her long-term relationship and the distance between their homes. She has to make an impossible decision – to remain in America and start over with Dev, or to return to Italy and start a life with her fiancé. At the end of the last episode, you can see Dev and Francesca staring at each other while in bed together.

It was not clear what this ending meant, and Ansari gave us an explanation: “It’s not a flashback, I can confirm that. We’re wearing different clothes…As far as what that ending means…It’s really up to you and how you feel.” He also said: “Some people will be like, ‘Oh, great, everything’s good! And some other people are like, ‘Are you f**king nuts?’ And some people will be like, ‘Oh, it seems like that’s all in one of their heads.’”

Since the bed scene isn’t one of the past scenes, Ansari didn’t give many updates on the future relationship between the two characters. He wants the viewers to come up with their own interpretation instead. “I don’t want to say my personal take on it. I’d like people have their own version of it…I think if you’ve ever been in a situation like that, it’s the most agonizing thing. When you’re really in love with someone and they’re in love with you, but it just can’t happen. It’s brutal,” he said. Ansari continued: “And I think your analysis of what that even is changes with time, as you have more time away from that situation and more relationships, you have a very different take on what that even was.”

Some fans might not like this open-ended answer because they want to know what will happen with Dev. Whether he will stay in NYC or end up with Francesca or whether his career turns fine after the Clash of the Cupcakes and Best Food Friends. It seems that Ansari isn’t ready to give us those answers. Also, not knowing what happens next on Master of None, the creator and writer is prepared to do some soul-searching before jumping into the next project. What fans can do right now is respect the candid characters and realistic comedic moments from the past seasons and hope that Ansari will find his needed inspiration soon enough.
