Directed by Chris Columbus and Thor Freudenthal and based on the novel series “Percy Jackson & the Olympians” by Rick Riordan, “Percy Jackson” is the US film series which first aired in February 2010, while the second installment was released in 2013. Ever since then fans can’t wait to hear about the third entry. Back in 2014, Logan Lerman, who plays the main character, hinted that the third installment was likely to happen, as he said: “If we want to make a third one, I have to do it, I’m contractually obligated to three movies. I love those movies, they’re a lot of fun to make.”

Unfortunately, we are still waiting for an official announcement, but there are various speculations. Some believe there is a great likelihood that the sequel will see the light of day, while others find this scenario almost impossible.

When the movie “Noah” which also stars Lerman, was released, the actor mentioned in an interview that “Percy Jackson 3” will not be delivered. Well, at least that’s how some people understood what he said. However, he later explained that he actually did not rule out either possibility. “I said I don’t know, I’ve never heard anything and it’s been a while since the second one was released, so I just haven’t heard anything about a third film. Unless they call me I think it’s unlikely.”

Apart from the rumors that the sequel has been cancelled, there have been some speculations about turning the story about Percy Jackson into a TV series, too. Namely, in August last year, Ecumenical Times reported that CW had set aside $12 million for Season 1 production. However, should this project be realized, Logan Lerman is not the one who would play Percy Jackson, since the main idea is to portray the young Percy Jackson, so they would have to find a younger actor. With all these info, it’s quite clear that the series would follow the storyline of Riordan’s first book.

“Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lighting Thief” and “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” the two movies released so far, both turned out to be highly popular. The first title grossed $226,497,209 worldwide, while the second one earned $199,850,315. In addition to this, these two movies made it much easier for Lerman to get some great roles in films such as “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” and “The Three Musketeers.” The actor himself admitted: “It’s been a great experience for me…it’s opened up a lot of doors for me” but, he also added: “…but I don’t think it’s happening.”

All things considered, it seems that everything is still possible, so we should not lose hope. Follow us for any new info about the highly anticipated sequel.
