This show is telling a typical harem story with charming girls serving as the main characters alongside with a boy who is named here as Kanata Age. He is reckoned to be the best swordsman, but after being wounded, he had to retire. His comrades with whom he had many battles called him a coward while being unaware of the whole situation.
So what is he doing if he is not fighting and showing his skills in combat? Well, he is compelled to share his military experience with others all those abilities that he has obtained during many years on the frontline. So, he embarks on training girls that are reckoned to be the most useless troops that there are. The story is specifically about the relations between those girls and a trainer whose fate is a complicated one.
The plot actually takes place in an alternate future reality. There the humans are driven off Earth and have to build aerial castles. The power that has forced them off the planet is the terrible magical armored insects that manage to reach the floating cities that have to be protected with magic.
