We’ve had an important piece of information when it comes to Wrangler pickup from Jeep in January. The official word was that a truck is to be produced. A little bit later, the company CEO Mike Manley announced on ‘The Detroit News’ that Jeep Wrangler pickup will enter production in late 2019. This comes as a confirmation of the statement from January. The vehicle is said to be based on JL Wrangler.
Mike Manley also mentioned possible names for the upcoming pickup. He stated that they are thinking about giving this pickup one of traditional ‘historic’ names. Predecessors of this pickup had names such as the Gladiator, Comanche, and original Willys Jeep Truck. Out of all these names, we suspect that Gladiator will be the chosen one since that name was used for a concept from 2005.
We expect this pickup to be produced in Fiat Chrysler Automobile plant in Toledo, Ohio. This facility was used for Cherokee and Wrangler production, but the Cherokee will be moved to FCA’s Belvidere Assembly Plant in Illinois in order to make additional room for the new model.
We could see that the company has recently revealed a redesigned Compass, they are also working on a new Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer and also on a fully refreshed Grand Cherokee. All of these projects are reasons behind the company being so late with the development of the new vehicle. We have to understand that this pickup is not high on company’s priority list and that’s why it will come later than expected.
The Jeep Wrangler Pickup is surely something to be hyped about because the company has been known for their great and capable SUVs. As we have said, the vehicle is based on the next-gen Wrangler so that just adds to the list of reasons why fans are so eager to see the start of production. Well, according to Mike Manley our wish has been granted, and this one will soon come to the production lines.
