On Wednesday, Jeep officially announced that they plan to introduced the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk at the New York Auto Show that takes place in April. The boss of the American automaker, Mike Manley said on that occasion: “That is going to be quite a special vehicle. Very difficult for one not to smile.”

We could hear him speak at an event at FCA US headquarters in Auburn Hills, MI. Manley also previewed the 2017 Easter Jeep Safari models for Moab, but he was unwilling to unveil future plans and details. What is important is that we have got an official confirmation about the Trackhawk debut in New York, after so many months of hearing nothing but rumors and speculations.

The new Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is going to sport a 6.2-liter Hemi Hellcat engine that also powers the Charger and Challenger, and this is a logical choice. This supercharged V8 unit produces 707 horsepower in the Dodge models, whereas the most powerful ongoing Grand Cherokee is the SRT version which unit delivers 475 hp. This probably means that there will be a significant boost in terms of total output, but it is not known if it will go all the way up to 700 hp.

Meanwhile, Jeep has already started with the sale of the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, and if you want a potent off-roader, this is a vehicle for you. Manley repeated that the next-generation Wrangler will arrive before this year ends, as planned.
