Well, the Shanghai Auto Show keeps getting better and better. Today we have for you a freshly revealed fifth gen of Honda CR-V, and it is a Hybrid variant. Although it was the first official reveal, Honda decided to keep a lot of info to themselves, the only thing they shared is the fact that it will go on sale sometime in the second half of 2017 from Dongfeng Honda. As you can see they didn’t mention any other market, meaning we have to be patient, they will eventually.

What we managed to find out is that this CR-V Hybrid will be equipped with the Honda Sport Hybrid i-MMD (Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive) two-motor hybrid system, which is most likely very similar to the one found in the Accord Hybrid. On the D-segment sedan, a 2.0 L four-cylinder i-VTEC Atkinson-cycle petrol unit produces 145 HP and 130 lb-ft of torque. To aid the internal combustion engine Honda added the electric motors (backed up by a 1.3 kWh lithium-ion battery) that are capable of producing 184 HP and 232 lb-ft of torque. Altogether, the system output is rated at 215 HP and its handled by an E-CVT, and with four driving modes available.

The regular CR-V is available with, depending on the market where it is sold, two petrol engines – a 2.4 L naturally-aspirated DOHC i-VTEC four-cylinder or a 1.5 L turbocharged DOHC VTC I4 engine. The CR-Vs sold over at Thailand are offered with a 1.6 L DOHC i-DTEC turbodiesel engine, and the good news is that all of these (well, all petrol engines – diesel gets the ZF nine-speed conventional automatic gearbox) are coupled to the CVT and offer both FWD or the AWD option.

Back to the CR-V Hybrid, it is important to say that it will be packed with tech, meaning Honda has prepared “a full complement of features” for it, including the Honda Sensing suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies. That, of course, means you are getting features like Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) with Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Lane Keeping Assist System.

If there happens to be something additional or anything else we will notify you instantly so stay tuned for updates regarding the Honda CR-V Hybrid, and until then enjoy the photos we provided.

I am a very hard-working person who leaves nothing unfinished and halfway done. When I commit to something I give my best to make sure that everything is done the way as it is supposed to be. I like cars and everything that comes with them. My passion are American muscle cars, but unfortunately the closest I managed to come near one is behind my laptop watching an image of the new Chevy or Dodge and writing about it. But that’s ok I’m still optimistic. When I’m not behind the laptop writing I’m on the streets and auto shows admiring all stuff rolling on four wheels being propelled by a petrol engine!
