It has been less than one year since Honda officially confirmed that they would produce a plug-in and all-electric variants of Clarity and here is the first information about the EV already. According to Automotive News, the range of the new Honda Clarity EV is going to be about 80 miles per charge. The Japanese manufacturer said that this amount of range was the result of the choices they had made at the beginning of the process and not an engineering disadvantage.

Honda doesn’t want to talk about the size of the new Clarity EV which will be based on the same underpinnings as other Clarity models. Another segment about which we didn’t get any info is the price of the new car, but according to some predictions, it should not go over a $35,000 mark.

Honda’s Vice President of Environmental Business Development in the US, Steve Center told Automotive News: “A pillar of the Honda brand is affordability, and if Honda came out with some obscenely priced long-range electric car, what does that do for the brand. Most of our customers would not be able to acquire it.”

In 2016 companies officials said that the all-electric version of the Clarity would sport “premium content and features” and it would be affordable. The features Japanese company referred to were probably the Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Honda Sensing driver assistance systems, which will be offered as standard equipment in both PHEV and EV models.

Honda believes that the Clarity will actively compete against its rivals. The biggest advantages the Clarity EV has over some other cars in the market are size and price as the Chevrolet Bolt is cheap but much smaller and the Tesla Model S boasts space while it is quite expensive. Some other competitors of Honda Clarity will be upcoming Nissan Leaf and the Hyundai Ioniq EV.
