Avant-garde designs, we all love it! Right? Well, we sure know that BMW does like it. This German company is famous for their beautiful art cars and astonishing works of Chris Bangle, but this time automaker employed yet another talent to remake two of their EVs.
The person we are talking about is Lapo Elkann. He is John Elkann’s (chairman of Fiat) brother and an aspiring artist. He owns ‘Garage Italia’ customs studio. And yet again he has been employed by BMW to refresh their i8 model.
Futuristic designs and cars will never tire out the audience. And again, the Garage Italia strived for futuristic with the i8 (with the addition of rework on i3 model). Lapo found his inspiration in the ‘Memphis Design Group.’ That is a group of designers from Europe who introduced flashy and bright colors and special, eye-catching shapes in the eighties.
To spice things up, Lapo and BMW even hired Michele De Lucchi. He is one of the original members of the group mentioned above, and he was a part of the team for this project. All of that resulted in eccentric and unique appearance. Design made of unusual shapes, patterns, bright colors and sharp contrasts. Another thing Garage Italia touched with their brilliance was the interior. The cabin was modified so as to match in leather, Alcantara and technical fabrics in bright colors so as to put emphasis on the famous English style.
This car couple will be on display at the UniCredit Pavillion at the Salone del Mobile in Milan, Italy later this week. At that same place, this group debuted almost 36 years ago. After that we expect the i8 to go over the pond to the US, to be precise to New York art festival. If you are too lazy or too busy actually to go and see this car for yourself, we left you tons of pictures here, however, we’d advise you to prepare for it. What you are about to see is nothing near the ‘usual’ and what we are used to seeing!
