George Clooney – Early Retirement Because of his Age?

It seems that George Clooney, 56, is ready to quit acting due to, as he puts it, his age. He says that he shouldn’t be the guy that gets the girl anymore, adding that acting used to be the means to pay the rent, which it certainly isn’t anymore. He also says that he has just sold a company for a billion, so he doesn’t need any more money than that. Actually, this isn’t the first time that Clooney mentions he is done with acting, so he might be serious about it. Nonetheless, is his age the real reason?

It is clear that he looks more than great, and, that he is not that old at all. Namely, he is roughly the same age as Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, Keanu Reeves and Brad Pit. His real problem might lie somewhere else. Some would say that it could be his failure as a director and actor.

It could hardly be believable that George Clooney would run away from his career if it were as successful as Tom Hanks’s or Denzel Washington’s. His movies can be described as mediocre and some even great failures.

When it comes to the Ocean series, it wouldn’t have been that successful if there hadn’t been for Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt. If we take a look at his directing career, it is far from good. The box office and critical failure of Suburbicon will certainly give pause to studios and investors.

He hasn’t had any successful movie for more than a decade, so this might be the right reason for his, as many would agree, early retirement.

Who says that stars are not allowed to age in front of the camera? What about Gene Hackman, Jack Nicholson, Humphrey Bogart, Spencer Tracy, Gary Cooper, Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart, and many, many others? They are the proof of extremely good acting, tremendous success, and no age limit.
