Football club Barcelona, which is as you all know ‘more than just a football club,’ announced that it will be renovating its stadium, the famous Camp Nou. The works should start after the 2016-2017 season is over, in May of 2017. The project will be carried out by a Japanese company Nikken Sekkei and will cost more than $655,000,000. Contracting company announced that the project would take about four years to be fully completed.

Restoration of Camp Nou which is one of the biggest stadiums in the world is an amazing venture on its own but the fact that it will be done even during the matches of FC Barcelona is truly amazing. The works on the stadium won’t affect players on the field so Messi and the gang will be able to do what they do best.

During the course of football season, works will be conducted on the stands and around the stadium while the work on the field and the roof will be done during the summer in the off-season.

Stadium Camp Nou is the biggest football stadium in Europe, and it is one of the symbols of both European and World football. Its current capacity totals 98,000 seats.

After the completion of the reconstruction, Camp Nou will have 105,000 seats and a completely new roof installed while the stands will be expanded and new content introduced.

Regarding the funding of new Camp Nou, most of it will be financed by FC Barcelona. To be exact, two-thirds of the funding will be paid by the organization behind the team, while the remaining third will be attained trough sponsorship. FC Barcelona is planning to sell naming rights of the new Camp Nou to the third party. They are expecting to gain more than $200 million from a brand that will have its name advertised besides the words Camp Nou which will not be removed from stadium name.

A few years ago rumors started to circle that Real Madrid will add Microsoft brand name to their Santiago Bernabeu stadium. This was never finalized, but as Barcelona’s management already announced, this could happen to their home, it remains to be seen who will be the company joining one of the biggest names in the World.
