After what appears to be the ages for the fans, the new season of Game of Thrones comes back on July 16. Once again, we expect a lot of surprising situations, twists and turns as the battle for the Iron Throne continues while even bigger threat comes from the North.
In Season 7, many mysteries will be resolved considering that the show is going to end soon. Here are 10 questions that will probably be answered in the upcoming season, which is going to be epic.
10. What Happens If Jon Snow’s Father Is Who We All Think It Is?
In the previous season, we realized, thanks to Bran’s flashback, that Jon Snow was not actually Ned Stark’s son and this only confirmed the fan theory. What we know for sure is that Jon Snow is the son of Lyanna Stark, Ned’s sister, and even though we assume that the long-deceased Rhaegar Targaryen is the father, it hasn’t yet been stated.
Rhaegar is the brother of Daenerys, and he allegedly kidnapped Lyanna, so he was killed by Robert Baratheon eventually. If this turns out to be true (and it is likely) how would this affect Jon Snow? Well, he may lose interest in Winterfell considering that he is not Ned’s son and Sansa may end up being the one in charge. Jon immediately becomes interested in Iron Throne, and although he has never wanted to be a great ruler of the Seven Kingdoms, he might get into conflict with Daenerys over the Throne.
9. Daenerys’ Plan
Daenerys has finally gathered the fleet she needs to sail the open seas and the last time we saw her, she was on board with Tyrion, Unsullied, the Dothraki, Ellaria Sand, Olenna Tyrell and Yara Greyjoy. What remains unknown is whether she is sailing straight for the King’s Landing or to her ancestral home of Dragonstone where she will set camp first.
She has recently become a slightly boring character, and we are glad she is getting back in the game. However, we probably won’t see a lot of action in the first episode, so she is probably not going for the King’s Landing immediately.
8. What About Cersei?
Cersei has become the most dangerous character at the end of Season 6 after she used Wildfire to destroy the Great Sept of Baelor and kill all her enemies. However, she is both stronger (as a character) and weaker when it comes to the allies because she burnt her Tyrell bridges and the Boltons are gone together with the Freys.
The one character that could help her is notorious Euron Greyjoy, who will certainly not become an ally with Yara and Theon.
7. Will Jamie Support His Sister?
Jamie is a mixed bag, and although he killed the Mad King when he wanted to use Wildfire to burn the innocent civilians and thus became the Kingslayer, he had his good moments. Now his sister did exactly that, which consequently led to Tommen’s suicide and it remains to be seen whether Jamie will stick with Cersei, or do something else.
With all their children gone, Cersei is left deprived of her loved ones and she will be more dangerous than ever. This means that we might see a conflict between the two Lanister factions.
6. What Is Sansa’s Plan?
Sansa has finally stopped being frightened and whiny character that does nothing, and the fans (including myself) have started to like her. However, she was not thrilled with Jon Snow becoming new King of the North, and something is expected to happen here, but we don’t know what. We must not forget about Lord Baelish who lingers around Winterfell, and as we have had a chance to realize in the previous seasons, he is an influential man.
5. Arya’s Killing Spree
Arya has always been a Stark, and she got rid of Walder Frey easily, but what happens with her in the upcoming GoT season 7? She has acquired new skills and she will probably continue her killing spree. The question that arises here is who is going to be next? So many names come to mind, such as Beric Dondarrion, The Mountain, Melisandre or even Cersei.
4. Euron Grayjoy’s Plans
Euron Grayjoy is an interesting character, but we haven’t seen much of him since he appeared. He scared off Yara and Theon and ordered his men to build one thousand ships. With the infamous Boltons and Freys out of the picture, we will definitely see more of Euron in the upcoming season.
3. White Walkers And The Wall
In her talk with Jon, after they reclaimed Winterfell, Sansa said: “Winter is here.” This means that the White Walkers are coming to conquer the realms of men and The Wall is probably going to fall. In order to reach Westeros, the Whites need to take down The Wall first, but we should not forget the ice magic mentioned by Benjen Stark. This is what we have been waiting for – the battle between the Walkers and men and in Season 7 we will either know more about this, or we are going to wait for next season to see this epic clash.
2. Where Is Gendry?
The last time we saw Gendry, he was rowing away from Dragonstone in a quick pace. Although he is a bastard, he is a successor to the Throne and the only Baratheon left. His ambitions were never high, but is that going to change in the new season? Seeing him would be enough for starters.
1. Sam Tarly’s Role In Oldtown
In Season 6, Sam has become the real man. The man who defied his father’s will, the man who stole the Valyrian steel sword and the man who took Gilly and her son to Oldtown as he wants to become a maester. Sam’s education is going to be important for everyone in Westeros, and we can’t wait to see what he will find in the enormous library of Oldtown, full of knowledge and dark secrets.
