Game of Thrones Season 8 Confirmed! Here’s What You Need To Know!

Winter is coming! But you’ll have to wait for it a bit longer, at least until 2019. HBO recently issued a statement where the company confirmed Season 8 of their biggest show!

“The epic fantasy series Game of Thrones will return for its six-episode, eighth and final season in 2019. David Benioff & D.B. Weiss, David Nutter and Miguel Sapochnik will be the directors for the new season. Writers for the new season are David Benioff & D.B. Weiss, Bryan Cogman and Dave Hill. The executive producers of the series are David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, Carolyn Strauss, Frank Doelger and Bernadette Caulfield. Co-executive producers are Bryan Cogman, Guymon Casady, Vince Gerardis and George R.R. Martin.”

The statement came as a brief press release that ‘foreshadowed’ its final season as many claim. Unfortunately for millions of GoT fans, the final season of the show will only have six episodes.

Season 8 itself may be short, plus on top of that, we’ll have to wait for it awfully long. One of the most popular TV shows of today will take more than a year off from TV. The comeback is scheduled for 2019, but it will also end the same year. HBO hasn’t confirmed the exact month and date. And yes, many fans are devastated because this is bad news but let’s see if we can discern some light at the end of the tunnel.

1Spoilers, Prequels and Books

In the previous year, HBO had a tough time with leaks and spoilers. That has been the case for the past seven seasons, but last year there were whole episodes stolen and shared online. For Season 8, the network promised a way better security. And of course, due to the long wait, fans will most likely try everything only to get their hands on scripts or possibly leak some footage.

George R.R. Martin is expected to publish the remaining book in his A Song of Ice and Fire series. Martin recently teased that The Winds of Winter, which is book number six, might just be released this year. However, the final book, A Dream of Spring, should be available after the TV series.

Several GoT prequels are in development at the moment according to HBO. We still have no information about the official plot, but George R.R. Martin is said to be involved with the possible shows too. We believe that due to the pushing back of Game of Thrones Season 8 to 2019, the network and its creative team will have more than enough time to properly plan the prequels and make fans ecstatic more than once in the future.
