Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) Extends Search Beyond Friends and Family

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) announced today that its Search FYI team has extended the search capabilities to include all posts on Facebook around the globe.

The social Network giant gets over 1.5 billion searches a day and their index houses more than 2 trillion posts, clearly Search would be paramount to Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB).

It also said the Search is being updated today to go beyond family and friends, now it’s possible to know what other people are talking about any topic globally.

The new updated Search will have search suggestions as you type and even highlight matters that are occurring at the moment. It will also have search results from public posts as well as from friends. Another feature is the ability to tap into public conversations in the search. It’s possible to find public posts about a certain link or look at phrases in these posts. Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) said that this is the beginning for this feature and will be improved and made better as they get feedback from people who are using the feature.

Privacy in mind, Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) said in the blog post:

“Your search results are personalized and unique to you and, as always, you can only see things that have been shared with you. Likewise, you control who can see your posts on Facebook and it’s easy to change the audience of your past posts any time.”

The new updates are rolled out in US English on Android, desktop and iPhone.
