It is usually said that the sweetest things are actually the most dangerous ones? And as we all know, it usually refers to food that we like the most. When Nutella appeared on the market, everyone was absolutely fascinated and spellbound by its flavor. However, there are some rumors which suggest that Nutella is not beneficial for our body. So, what are these ingredients that make Nutella so unhealthy? Let’s find out.

Palm oil, which is one of the main components of Nutella is highly important for its texture, as it is making sure that the other ingredients don’t get separated after being left on the shelf for some time. Is is also maintaining the flavor of other ingredients. And if Ferrero decided to make a switch, the replacement of this oil would cost it an extra $8-22 million a year.

Moreover, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) proclaimed this oil to be more carcinogenic than any other oil on the market. For this reason, the sales of Nutella has suddenly decreased down for 3% in only one night.

Ferrero’s response to these rumors was:

“We don’t disclose the full proportions of the ingredients in Nutella as our recipe is unique and we wish to safeguard this. The product’s label provides simple and clear nutritional information per 15g portion, or two heaped teaspoons, as well as per 100g. The ingredients are also listed on the Nutella website. One of Ferrero’s core nutritional beliefs is that small portion sizes help people to enjoy their favourite foods in moderation. The labeling on our products enables consumers to make informed choices and helps ensure that Nutella can be enjoyed as part of a balanced diet.”
