Ender’s Game – Will There Be a Sequel or Not?

In 1985, Orson Scott Card’s military science fiction novel titled Ender’s Game saw the light of day, and only one year later it was followed by a sequel (Speaker for the Dead). The novel centers on the events which take place in distant future when humankind is forced to fight insectoid alien species. In order to do that, they need to train the children from a very early age and make them capable of fighting these creatures. During one of those training courses, one boy singles out due to his obvious talent. As you can guess, this boy is Ender Wiggin.

After the book had become highly popular, Gavin Hood came up with the idea of directing a movie which would be based on Card’s novel. His plans were eventually realized, and the sci-fi film was delivered in 2013. Bearing in mind the fact that Hood had already directed several successful movies, including X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Rendition, and adding promising cast (Harrison Ford, Asa Butterfield, Ben Kingsley, Hailee Steinfeld etc.), many people believed the Ender’s Game movie adaptation just had to be another Hood’s blockbuster. However, they were eventually proven wrong. What seemed to be the problem was that they failed to reach the target audience – teenagers.

In spite of the fact that the film was mostly bad received, the fans of Ender’s Game novel still claim that they would like to see the sequel.

When the author of the novel was asked about his attitude towards movie adaptation of Ender’s Game sequel, he didn’t even try to hide that he didn’t like the idea. “It consists of talking heads, interrupted by moments of excruciating and unwatchable violence. Now, I admit, there’s plenty of unwatchable violence in film, but never attached to my name. Speaker for the Dead, I don’t want it to be filmed. I can’t imagine it being filmed,” Card explained.

All things considered, for the time being, it does seem somewhat unlikely that the Speaker of the Dead movie will be made, but there are still some chances, for this option has not been completely ruled out yet. You never know, they might decide to film it, and it might turn out to be a blockbuster this time. Whatever happens, we’ll let you know. Follow us for more details.
